The Cultural Village Foundation Katara launched the Dazzling Egg Exhibition by artist Um Abdullah Al Khulaifi yesterday Sunday in the Katara Art Studios, building 19,
in the presence of Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Sayyed, deputy general manager of Operations, and members of the Ministry of Culture in addition to the media.
I started this craft in 1990 and my first exhibition was held in 1993 at the Sheraton Hotel. This exhibition has achieved a great success but has also encountered difficulties, such as providing the necessary materials from overseas that have prevented me to practice this art for many years despite the attempts of my relatives to encourage me.
Because of the blockade, I have a strong feeling that I need to express my loyalty to my country, especially when I saw many creative contributions of other artists, I decided to dazzle the image of Tamim Almajd by the artist Ahmed Maadid on the ostrich eggs and other works until I accomplished a large number of designs. Then, I found the opportunity to present my artworks in Katara.
It needs a high qualification and precision to do an artworks on eggs so that you don not fracture them. I utilize in my works more than one kind of egg, such as ostrich, emu, and goose and turkey eggs. The emu egg has a hard shell that request more efforts and time to complete an artwork on it.
The artist revealed that she was interested decorating the eggs when she was 10 years old after watching the English Channel 2 showing a foreign artist painting on eggs, since then she tried to imitate her and practice this art with much love and creativity.
The exhibition continues until 30 April in the Katara Art Studios, Building 19.
