Creative Essentials – Line and Color Workshop By Penelope Rolland The workshop is designed for all levels of artistic experience. It is open to anyone who wishes to develop or enrich their creative skills, and to beginner or advanced art students who feel the need to improve their technical skills as well as reinforce their creative potential. This intensive 5 day course intends to bring out a range of original tools and techniques that will strengthen observation and line drawing skills, intensify color sensitivity, enhance composition, and propose the manufacture of sourcebooks for research and preparatory work. The multiple forms of expression that collaborate together as a whole throughout the course provide a vibrant and innovative approach of artistic practice, generating a new vitalized creative energy. Learning outcomes: Through the reinforcement of visual perception skills, the enhancement of colour awareness, and new insights on how the creative process actually works, students will reveal their genuine artistic potential and uniqueness, thus allowing them to pursue their art practices with greater passion and confidence. DAY 1: Introducing the creative process. Defining, understanding and illustrating the 5 different stages of the creative process (accordion book 1). Creative cycles in nature. Line drawing fundamentals1 understanding L mode and R mode. Upside down drawings. Color scheme1. DAY 2: Line drawing fundamentals 2 contour drawing and the perception of edges. Free drawing1 translating feelings and emotions (accordion book 2). Introducing color. Color proportionality and interaction. Color symbolism. DAY 3: Line drawing fundamentals 3 negative space. Free drawing 2 problem solving. Feeling and perceiving color, lighting effects. Color mood. Color portraits (accordion book 3). DAY 4: Sketchbook and sourcebook bookbinding. DAY 5: Line drawing fundamentals 4 sighting relationships (angles and proportions), Free drawing 3 line and color. Color scheme 2. Special project. The course will run from 10 am to 12:30 pm and from 2PM to 4 PM. The last half hour of each day will be dedicated to class discussion. I will be available for one to one appointments with students every day at 12:30 pm.
