Embodying its purposes to revive the legacy of our ancestors, Katara the Cultural Village is all set to host El Meyna (Seaport) competition, a diving contest for Qatari nationals, for the second time for youngsters aged between 10 and 14 years on condition to pass the as swimming, diving and health tests. The event will start on Thursday 21 May 2015 , as the Dhows will leave Katara Beach at 4 pm and head towards Bari Al Mafras (AlOsairi) Doha inlet. The trip will continue until 23 May then the closure ceremony will be celebrated at 4 pm on Katara beach. The main purpose of El Mayna is to get the youths used to the sea by diving and getting the pearls. The competition is also aimed at enlightening the youngsters about how their forefathers lived, as the participants will experience life in a dhow, They will fish, clean the fish and cook it in the traditional manner.
