​The magical rhythms of the Oud will once again resonate throughout Katara Cultural Village during the Second Katara Oud Festival being held from April 5 to 8. Over the four days, world-renowned Oud maestros will enchant the audience at Katara, while talented Oud makers from across the globe will display their skills on the sidelines of the Festival. Expert talks, daily musical performances and many more. Join us to know and enjoy the Oud.   Al Farabi Theatre In the afternoon and during the festival, Al Farabi Theatre, located in front of the Amphitheater, will host Oud performances by renowned bands from around the globe. They will be joined by amateur Oud musicians, those who  are passionate about the Oud instrument and want to showcase their talent. These musicians include:  Bashir Al Jaber, Anwar Taqi Al Deen, Ibrahim AL Shafia, Emad Al Araiq   Al Farabi: The Second Master ​Abu Nasr Al Al Farabi is a mixture of all cultures and knowledge, a blend of geography and intellect, between Arabism and Islam. Abu Nasr Al Farabi was born in 874 in Farab in Transoxiana. Today, Farab is located in Kazakhstan. He traveled to the Arab world and settled in Syria to present his books and his dissertations. He died in the year 950. Al Farabi was a philosopher who mastered the science of philosophy. He mastered Mathematics and contributed to philosophy, mathematics and politics in many ways. He served music through his grand book titled The Great Book of Music which is considered one of the most important Arabic books on music; a topic that has not been discussed or researched previously. This book is encyclopedic; it includes all theoretic and practical aspects of music. The Book of Music is a grand work and has gained international fame in the music world for its comprehensive material and rich, unique style that Al Farabi adopted. It can be said that the direction of international music was inspired by this book, after it became popular through translations, like other great works of Al Farabi. At the First Oud Festival last year Katara celebrated Zeryab, the Arab genius and what he offered to music, especially the Oud instrument. This year, we have chosen Al Farabi, another great Muslim genius, known as the Second Master (next to Aristotle) as our icon.
