The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara is organizing the Prophet's Poet Festival from April 10 to 14 which will witness the presentation of the 'Katara Award for the Prophet's Poets' to the winners. Katara announced the first panel which will come up with a shortlist of the best 30 poems after being selected from 828 poems submitted. The final jury will choose the five poets for awards during the festival.
The committee pointed out that the geographical zone represented by participants had extended to include the entire Arab world and many other countries such as: India, Chad, Eritrea, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Suede and Belgium …
The total of texts that filtered by the jury in this phase was 30 texts.
Judging will be carried out by two independent panels of juries comprising professors, academics and specialists in the Arabic language and poetry, Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti told a press conference yesterday.
The terms and conditions of Katara's Award for the Prophet's Poet stipulate that poems need to focus on the subject of complimenting the prophet and his traditions. Poems have to be written in standard modern Arabic and in accordance with horizontal syllabic poetry, as other forms of prose will not be considered. The submission process was open to poets 18 years old and older and welcome to individuals from all over the world. Poems should be between 30 and 60 verses, must be original works of art never before submitted to other competitions and the legal property of the individuals submitting the poems. Each participant is required to submit only one poem.
Katara has dedicated a number of distinct awards which reflect the significance of the event, collectively totaling USD 675,000 and to be distributed as follows: First place: USD 300,000; Second place: USD 200,000; Third place: USD 100,000; Fourth place: USD 50,000 and Fifth place: USD 25,000.
Katara will publish an anthology of the winning poems.
