The Qatar Philharmonic offers a concert with Music Director Han Na Chang conducting a Russian program. After the famous, exuberant overture to Ruslan and Ludmila by Mikhail Glinka, pianist Cristina Ortiz will perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, an occasion to hear its noted, melodic Andante cantabile. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 closes the evening with its mingling hints of innovation, of grandeur, of starkly tragic humor and of deep personal character.
