The cultural Village Katara witnessed on Sunday the launch of the first issue of Murooj magazine as part of the memorandum of understanding signed between Katara and the Murooj Qatar Initiative.
In her speech, Dr. Latifah Shaheen Al Nuaimi, president and founder of Murooj Qatar initiative, said: "Murooj is the first publication of its kind in the State of Qatar and the Gulf region as the first specialized agricultural journal". She referred in her speech to the role of the agricultural media in promoting Qatar's crops in light of the new challenges in the sector. She also said: "the magazine would approach farms owners and transmit their concerns to officials. Dr. Al-Nuaimi thanked all the supporting bodies.
She added that Murooj magazine establishes the agricultural media in Qatar while achieving food security is a priority and an integral part of its national security.
For his part, Dr. Khalid Bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of the Cultural Village Katara said that: "this magazine opens a new window for culture and agricultural sciences, as it allows all segments of the society to know about the programs and plans in the agricultural sector, and to achieve sustainable agricultural development in Qatar and the Region by applying scientific methods.
Dr. Al Sulaiti stressed that the magazine is issued while the local agriculture sector is supported by Katara by launching Mahaseel festival, which is a platform to introduce agricultural production and related industries, as well as its contribution to the dissemination of quality and perfection culture in the field of agricultural products as a strategic option in improving the level of production.
Dr. Al-Sulaiti also pointed to the efforts Katara to support every initiative that would contribute to the achievement of biodiversity, cultivation of plants and wild trees, including the Samara (National Tree of Qatar) campaign and various activities
The press conference concluded with the signing of Dr. Latifa Al Nuaimi, president and founder of Murooj Qatar initiative , for a number of cooperation agreements with a group of authorities in the country.
It should be noted that the Murooj Qatar initiative is a voluntary community contribution that participates with the concerned governmental or private authorities in the state to increase the green areas in Qatar.
The Murooj Qatar initiative aims to educate the community about the importance of spreading the concepts and culture of loving agriculture, rationalize the consumption of water used in irrigation, as well as creating a moral value of agriculture and afforestation especially in future generations, and expand the green areas in most areas of Qatar.
